Following Rockingham Speedway success, Radical Announce SR3 RS

28th April 2009

Launched at Autosport International in January 2009, Radical’s totally revised SR3 is to be known as the Radical SR3 RS following its maiden UK win at Rockingham Speedway (RS) by Radical co-founder Phil Abbott and Massimo Vignali.

The SR3 RS has undergone a major revision of its chassis, aero, electronics and engine.

While still accommodating two large adults the spaceframe chassis has been significantly re-designed improving both safety and torsional stiffness.  The high tensile steel safety cell and frontal crash structures comply with the current FIA Safety tests confirming that Radical have brought carbon chassis levels of safety to the Club racer.

A twenty percent increase in torsional stiffness further improves the car’s already impressive handling characteristics.

The all-new aero first seen on the SR3 RS’s bigger ‘brother’, the SR8LM, endows the car with increased aero efficiency and improved engine cooling.  Early customers in Saudi Arabia, Nevada and Mexico have confirmed that the SR3 RS has increased levels of grip while engine temperatures remain normal even when the ambient is above 40°C.

The new bodywork and livery of the SR3 RS are complemented by the new Radical-designed cast aluminium wheels, which have passed the rigorous TÜV Safety Test and have been welcomed by Dunlop for use with their latest purpose-designed slicks and wets.

The 1340cc and 1500cc Powertec Suzuki engine available in the SR3 RS have undergone a major upgrade in 2009.  An all-new combustion chamber with titanium valves has resulted in a 10bhp increase in power while a new LIFE ECU improves driveability and provides full engine data recall.

An all-new dash or steering wheel-mounted data display and logging system completes the SR3 RS’s comprehensive upgrade.

Following the Rockingham Speedway race, Phil Abbott commented “The SR3 Supersport was a hard act to follow but the RS has made significant steps forward in all areas.  You can place the car anywhere you want on the circuit in the blink of an eye and in the corners the car has unbelievable grip.  On the infield we were able to catch up with the SR8’s and we won the SR3 Class with comparative ease.”

“The RS designation on the Radical SR3 represents a significant improvement in performance, driveability and safety!”
