Radical Back On-Track At First Official Test
10th March 2010
Competitors in Radical’s two UK championships got a first chance to test on UK soil this year, when the first official test for the Competition Car Insurance Radical UK Cup and Quaife Radical Clubman’s Cup took place at Snetterton yesterday.
With a packed paddock, it was an opportunity for many racers to get a first taste of new machinery, and 12 new-for-2010 cars took to the track during the day’s Radical-only track sessions. Amongst them were eight new drivers to the series, from both the UK and overseas.
The new 360 Racing pairing of Sami Suominem and Luigi Gatti had travelled from Finland and Italy respectively. For Suominem, a day in ther new SR3 RS was the perfect way to spend his 30th birthday. “The cars is unbelievable, because it’s so confidence-inspiring and easy to take to the limit,” said Gatti, previously a Porsche competitor. “The balance and performance of the car is never overwhelming; it’s great fun.”
Radical Owner’s Club founder Will Brown was another driver testing in anger, again in a new SR3 RS. For the first time, race testing sessions were interspersed with trackday sessions for club members, able to benefit from Radical’s on-site technical support and spares backup. “Testing today has been a great opportunity in our new Radical,” said Brown. “The speed differential at other testing and trackdays is an issue for Radical owners, so the format here has been much safer and less fustrating. It’s a great stepping stone for trackday drivers to progress towards racing.”
Weather conditions for the test were perfect, with the rain staying away for dry sessions throughout the day. For a hotlap of Snetterton, click here.
The second official Radical testday takes place at Brands Hatch on 25 March, ahead of the season opener at Rockingham in April. Radical owners wishing to enter the test can contact Amanda Abbott by clicking here.
